Summer Programs
Franklin First Scholars

With grant money from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Walmart Foundation, Franklin College created the Franklin First Scholars program in 2010. The program is a two-year-long seminar designed to support the education and retention of first-generation college students.
The program welcomed its second cohort of students to campus in August of 2011. 36 new first-generation students and their families participated in the 3-day orientation designed to give them a jump-start on the Franklin College experience by familiarizing themselves with campus, faculty, staff and their new classmates.
As you prepare for New Student Registration in the summer, please be sure you inform our office via email if you are a first generation college student (mom or dad did not graduate from college).
The Franklin Advantage

In 2011 FC welcomed sixteen students to participate in Franklin Advantage. This two-week intensive summer program is designed to provide an "advantage" to incoming freshmen by offering preparation in writing composition, reading and study skills. It also helps students become acclimated to living on a college campus prior to their first semester.
Franklin Advantage challenged students to examine their roles as global citizens by exploring the college’s values of excellence, leadership and service; a service-learning experience and a visit to the IMA further allowed them to understand the value of the strong liberal arts curriculum that the college offers.
